The Great Field by John James.
The Great Field won the USA Booknews "Best Spirituality Book of 2008"
"The soul is one of the most venerable, enduring images of spiritual traditions worldwide. In The Great Field, John James brings new information to this ancient concept, and in so doing helps bridge the worlds of modern science and spirituality, which is one of the most urgent tasks of our time." - Larry Dossey, MD Author of The Extraordinary Healing Power of Everyday Things.
John James draws on nearly twenty years of therapeutic practice to present elegant and sometimes startling conclusions about the nature of the universe and its implications for the human experience. Drawing on the established scientific wisdom of biology and astronomy, he shows that everything that exists has been created out of and within the vast domains of energy that form the Great Field, and that soul-that energetic part of us that connects with the universe-is as powerful a creative factor as DNA in our physical and psychic development.
"Because his findings are based upon an innovative combination of scientific evidence, diverse cultural and spiritual wisdom, and therapeutic case histories, James' conclusions provide stimulating and original theory of how the Great Field is the foundation of everything in the universe-including the personal energy we call soul.
"Our experience shows that all existence is energy, bathed in vibrations that are connected to everything in the universe, and that our senses in daily life are just one aspect of a universe of fields. Ever since Einstein wrote, "the field is the only reality," we have increasingly come to realize that the universe embodies both these realms, and that though they may appear contradictory, they are in fact mutually enfolding."

Soul is present in the womb and enters into the embryo about the same time as the sperm. It appears to operate as one of the initial creation factors in the evolution of the embryo and, as emotional content is added, absorbed and integrated (from the genes), affects the direction of the emotional body. A soul carries a number of energetic forms, such as the abandonment exampled above, that infuse the growing foetus and are then embodied in our lives. These often form what we call nodes, and we have been working on ways to dissolve these for the past eight years, but only recently recognised that they connect to the soul.
Client evidence shows that on death the soul form, altered as it is by the life it has lived through, reconnects, reintegrates with the Field and in time returns to form another life. We call it past lives, but it would be more accurate to see it as an ongoing energetic form that carries what is called karma. The form of abandonment in the example is carried in the Field and continues to affect life until it is cleared, which is why no issues can be completely cleared without including the transpersonal.
It turns out that consciousness plus intentful will is enough to makes these changes. It feels as if our solidness, grounded in our bodies and anchored with strong intent and a meditative attentiveness, can quite readily change the more amorphous nature of soul, which in turn changes every aspect of our attitudes, beliefs and behaviour. Thus widespread problems that manifest in a thousand daily actions can be assuaged at their roots. Once done with, we are more able to individuate, to become enlightened, or however we may wish to call the ultimate aim of transpersonal psychology
Notes to Transformation is John's first book on the Inner Work, and is used as reference material in nearly all our workshops. It is an invaluable guide in our work.
